Emiliania huxleyi
Haptophyta, coccolithophorid

Emiliania huxleyi is marine phytoplankton covered with special calcium carbonate scales on the surface of the cell. Cells of E. haxleyi sometimes become huge blooms that can be seen from space. This species is also extremely abundant as microfossils. White cliffs of Dover (England, UK) is mainly composed of those tiny algae.
