...and confusion reigns!
An old master said, "Objects appear, when grasping thoughts arise. Without grasping thoughts, can any object ever appear?"
One day, instead of giving a lecture, the Buddha picked up a flower and, with a silent smile, twirled it between his fingers. The audience, which had gathered there, expecting great things, was bemused. Well... almost all were bemused! All except Kaśyapa who simply smiled.
The Buddha then said, "I entrust this treasure of the eye of truth, this inexpressible mind of nirvāṇa, the true form of formlessness which cannot be expressed in words, a special transmission outside of any doctrine, to Mahākaśyapa."
