Speaking at IEEE Nano 2012, the 12th international conference on nanotechnology
Dr Simon R. Plant
Science City Research Alliance Fellow

I am a Science City Research Alliance Fellow in the Nanoscale Physics Research Laboratory at the University of Birmingam. My research interests focus on the development of nanomaterials, particularly those exhibiting quantum properties, that may have applications in areas such as nanoelectronics, nanophotonics and quantum computing.

I completed my DPhil (Phd) in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford as a member of what is now the Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Graphene Group. I was funded by EPSRC through a Doctoral Training Award, and I subsequently gained an EPSRC PhD Plus (Doctoral Prize) Award to support my postdoctoral work at Oxford. I joined the NPRL at Birmingham in 2011, and the following year I was appointed as a SCRA fellow to work on nanostructured materials.
