The Journey

Our cruise plan is largely up to the seasons. Our rough plan is to cruise Maine and New England from July to September 2011, and spend October in the Chesapeake Bay. Once the Atlantic hurricane season ends in early November, we will look for our chance to head to Panama as directly as possible. We want to maximize our time in Panama for several reasons: first, to be able to see the many islands on both sides of the isthmus; second, to allow time to schedule our canal transit; and third, to avoid heading straight from one long passage into the long Pacific passages that lie ahead starting approximately March 2012. We intend to follow the “usual” trade wind route: Galapagos Islands, the Marquesas, Tuamotus and Society Islands, the Cook Islands, and Tonga.
