Brunel Div 1

Nailsea v Old Bristolians 2

Score 3-1 (won)

Both sides started this game at full speed and with Nailsea attacking strongly. A drive down the right and cross by Ellie Holdaway forced the keeper to defend but Eleanor Hobbs stepped up to challenge and slotted home. Continuing the pace at full throttle Old B’s took the game to Nailsea’s defence forcing and converting a penalty corner to draw level with only 15 minutes gone.

The game continued to sway back and forth with Nailsea having the edge. A great shot from Katie Matthews hit the post and the OB’s keeper cleared a goal mouth scramble. Then a superb back line retrieve by Eleanor Hobbs and pass to top of the D where Gee Corner’s shot on target was converted by Katie Matthews to bring the half time score to 2 -1.

From the turn around Nailsea put pressure on the OB’s defence and managed to stretch the lead to 3-1 with a goal by Mia Bewley. A couple of good saves by the OB’s keeper denied Nailsea adding to the score. Towards the last quarter came a sudden turn-around of power and Nailsea pinned in their own half. Nailsea keeper Laura Waines-Pople played well throughout the game but her heroics kept OB’s from scoring and saw Nailsea through this patch, earning her Play of the Match. The home side rallied and managed a couple of last minute attacks but score remained 3-1.

Brunel Div 1

Nailsea v Weston Super Mare 2

Score 4-0 (won)

The season kicked off in a downpour which promised to continue throughout. The newly promoted home side pushed hard using their midfield effectively. A strong run down the right wing by Harriet Green saw Weston protecting their D but after several attempts to clear the ball, Nailsea attacker, Jen Roach kick started the score line with a flick into the back of the net. Nailsea kept the pressure on and after forcing a spate of penalty corners Eleanor Hobbs secured a second goal.

The second half started with no sign of the rain easing. Weston threatened but the Nailsea defence kept up their composure clearing their lines and feeding the attack. Two more goals by Player of the Match Molly Chidzey and Captain Gee Corner sealed the match and a good first game performance with plenty of room for improvement.
