CELEBRATIONS IN ISLAM

The events celebrated in islam are EID UL ADHA and EID UL FITR. Every Friday is also celebrated by offering a special prayer.

Islam is a way of life as shown to us by Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) and any act is done if it was done by the Prophet(pbuh) or was approved by him(pbuh). He(pbuh) never celebrated a birthday or wedding anniversary nor were any days like the 10th day , 40th day etc. after a person's death or death anniversaries commemorated by inviting people.

He(pbuh) never celebrated his own birthday by inviting people for dinner or lunch or even a snack. By giving a holiday and organising speeches to commemorate the day as done by many muslims now is an innovation. If someone wants to pay a tribute to him, it should be done by following his way of life, not by talking about him and his way of life on one day and doing acts not approved by him the rest of the year.

Marriage is celebrated, but not wedding anniversaries, similarly the birth of a child is celebrated but not birthdays. It is worth mentioning here, the tradition of the Propher(pbuh) of offering the sacrifice of 1 sheep for a girl and 2 for a boy on the 7th, 11th or 14th day after birth(called aqeeqa)or any time after that and also shaving the baby's hair. For a girl this is the only time that all of her head is shaved, unless be it for a medical reason and Allah knows best.

Eid ul adha is celebrated on the 10th day of the last month of hijri calender, called Dhul hujjah. This is the day Haj is completed by offering the sacrifice.

Eid ul Fitr is celebrated after a month of fasting of the month of Ramadan, when the month ends on sighting the new moon(crescent or hilal). The next morning is the Eid.

Both Eid's are celebrated by offering a special prayer and meeting and greeting relatives and friends.
