BACTERIAL L-CYCLE

Under certain circumstances bacteria can undergo unbalanced growth involving different morphological transformations and can exist as L-forms i.e. without rigid cell walls. L-forms are considered as a phase of bacterial life cycle known as "L-cycle".

MODES OF L-FORM REPLICATION

The mechanisms for the replication of L-form cells are variable.     In general, irregular division process is characteristic for multiplication of L-forms.
Formation of reproductive units, cells with incomplete genome and anucleated cells is possible.
