Lilia Michailova

Professor Emeritus, Institute of Microbiology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Lilia Michailova is as an expert in the field of microbial morphology and ultrastructure of cell wall deficient L-forms of pathogenic bacteria. She served as head of the Department of Morphology of Microorganisms & Electron Microscopy at the Institute of Microbiology from 1995 to 2005 where she studied bacteria-host cell interactions and mechanisms of L-form persistence in vivo at fine structural electron microscopic level. Dr. Lilia Michailova's research interests include the biology of bacterial strains, bacteria-macrophage interactions, ultrastructural description and differentiation of  bacterial cell wall deficient L-forms, L-form cultivation and colonial morphology.
