2010 Nike Indoor DMR Team From Tatnall (L to R Diamere Nabinett, Tyler Tate, Princely Muro, and Kyle McFoy)
Delaware track and field athletes posted some incredible performances on the national stage at the Nike Indoor Nationals competition over the weekend. The 4×400 team from Tatnall of Diamere Nabinett (50.9) Tyler Tate (51.9) Jordan Ortiz (51.9) and Princely Muro (49.8) ran the 2nd fastest relay in state history in 3:24.60. In other relays, The Distance Medley team from Tatnall of Kyle McFoy (3:24.9) Princely Muro (52.0) Diamere Nabinett (2:02.7) and Tyler Tate (4:21.3) ran 10:40.64, the fastest time in state history.
Ryan Lee from Archmere Academy opened up the evening with an impressive 11th place finish in a very competitive 5000M run, finishing in 15:25. Tyler Tate ran the 2nd fastest mile run in state history, coming in 19th in 4:20.71. In the Girls’ Freshman Mile Tatnall’s Reagan Anderson and Rebecca Salter finished 5th and 11th with times of 5:05 and 5:11 respectively.
Also competing individually were Tatnall’s 400 runners Princely Muro (51.24) and Diamere Nabinett (51.29) and Tatnall’s Rebecca Salter (2:18.52) and Cape Henlopen’s Rebecca Pepper (2:20.93) in the 800M. Salter and Pepper ran the 9th and 19th fastest times in state history.
DELAWARE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD STATE MEET, Newark, DE February 20, 2010
Both the boys’ and girls’ state championships on Saturday came down to performances in the last event (the 4x400M relay), and in both cases the team that won the 4×400 happened to also win the meet. Tatnall held off Howard Tech to take their first ever team title with 63 points. Howard finished 2nd with 57. In the girls’ meet Delcastle continued their 4x400M relay domination by taking 1st place. Delcastle concluded the meet with 103 points, while Tatnall finished 2nd with 98 points.
Delcastle’s Celina Emerson had a monster day, winning the 400M and 200M, finishing 2nd in the 55M, and anchoring the state champions 4x400M relay team. Tatnall’s Haley Pierce matched her in impressiveness, tripling and winning the 1600, 800, and 3200M. She also ran on the 2nd place 4x400M relay. Delcastle and Tatnall combined to take 22 of the possible 42 top 3 medals in the meet.
Tatnall’s Tyler Tate helped Tatnall win their state title by finishing 1st in both the 1600 and 800, and coming in 4th in the 3200. Glasgow’s Leshon Collins also had a very impressive day, winning the 55M and the 200M, finishing 3rd in the long jump, and leading off the 4th place 4x200M relay team.

Competition is heating up with the state meet less than two weeks away. Many athletes were looking for last chance qualifiers, entries into faster heats, and better lane assignments. The UD Invitational had all the makings of a state meet preview, and it lived up to the hype.
NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL- NY City Armory, January 23rd-
The Delcastle girls’ 4×400 relay team set a new state record at the Armory in NY City on Saturday. They finished 9th overall, running 4:00.75. Caravel’s Darwin Gibbons won the New Balance Invitational Pole Vault and tied his state record mark with a 15’6″ on Saturday at the Armory. Also, Caravel’s Matt Pafford pole vaulted 14’0″ and reached the 3rd highest mark in state history.
KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL, Kutztown, PA, January 22nd-
Tatnall’s Tyler Tate finished 1st overall in the 800M on Friday evening, running 2:00.86. Also Tatnall’s Princely Muro and Diamere Nabinett finished 2nd (52.75) and 3rd (52.82) respectively in the 400M.

Haley Pierce at Yale Classic
Haley Pierce’s 1600M state record led a wave of new all-time 1600M runners as 5 girls this weekend broke 5:16!!!! Pierces’s blistering 4:56.69, converted from her 3rd place 1-mile race at Yale, was the 2nd state record of the weekend. On Friday the Tatnall Distance Medley team broke the state record, running 12:07.59.
KUTZTOWN INVITATIONAL, Kutztown, PA- Emily Frydrych of St. Mark’s took 1st place in the girls’ 1600M, running 5:12.62 and ranking her #9 all-time. She was followed by Kayleigh Skinner of Charter, who finished in 5:15.16 and is ranked #16 all-time. Delcastle’s 4x400M relay team finished 1st in 4:09.7 and Delcastle’s Alexis Reeves also finished 1st place overall in the 55M in 7.29. Towerhill’s 4x800M relay girls’ team finished 1st overall in 10:23.

****UPDATED- YALE CLASSIC, Yale University CT, Jan 15 2010- Saturday- Haley Pierce broke Juliet Bottorff’s 1600M at the Yale Classic on Saturday, running the 1-mile in 4:58.49 for 3rd place overall. The time converts to a 4:56.69 for 1600M. Freshmen Rebecca Salter and Reagan Anderson also cracked all-time list, running 5:12.05 and 5:16.30 respectively. Carly Simmons came in 2nd overall in the 800M, running 2:19.41. Tyler Tate ran the 1-mile in 4:27.31, which converts to the 12th fastest 1600M in state history.
Friday-Tatnall’s Distance Medley Relay broke the state record on Friday at the Yale Classic, finishing 5th in the race. Their time of 12:07.59 broke the record set in 2009 by Tatnall of 12:15.
DELAWARE VALLEY MEET 7, Lehigh, PA January 15th-
EASTERN SHORE LEAGUE MEET #4, January 13th-
Starting Thursday evening and lasting through Sunday afternoon, the 2nd weekend of 2010 provided many thrilling meets all throughout the region, and it also resulted in many outstanding performances and even a new state record.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY INVITATIONAL, Landover, MD Charter’s Kayleigh Skinner finished 2nd place overall in the 800M(2:21.74), and Glasgow’s Leshon Collins finished 2nd in the 55M (6.53) at the Montgomery County Invitational.
HISPANIC GAMES, Armory Track, NY City- Saturday 1/9
Delcastle’s 4x200M relay team of Alexis Reeves, Celina Emerson, Krystal Casseus, and Javonna Dickerson broke Glasgow’s 7-year record at the Hispanic Games on Saturday. After breaking the record early in the day in the prelims (1:42.83), they came back even faster to finish 3rd in the finals with a new state record time of 1:42.74. Delcastle’s Celina Emerson also finished 5th overall in the 200M finals (25.75), good for the 8th fastest time in state history. Also in the meet St. Marks’ Zach Kaminski finished 8th in the Invitational 2-mile (9:51.28) and Salesianum’s Matt McKenna finished 11th in 9:56.97.
MAROON AND GOLD INVITATIONAL, Kutztown, PA-Saturday 1/9
Many teams from Delaware traveled north to the Maroon and Gold Invitational at Kutztown. The Delaware overall event female winners were Tatnall’s 4x800M relay team (10:14:36) and Tatnall’s Tia Cooper in the 55M (7.45). The male overall winners were Tatnall’s Tyler Tate (4:34.94) and Howard Tech’s Teron Evans in the 400M (52.33).
UD OPEN MEET, University of Delaware Field House, Newark, DE- Sunday 1/10
University of Delaware once again opened it doors to allow competition at the field house for the UD Open Meet on Sunday. Tatnall’s Haley Pierce had a very strong showing in the 1600, finishing in the 6th fastest time in state history (5:11.19). McKain’s Mark Flakes was a double winner in the 200 (22.92) and the 400 (52.15).
EASTERN SHORE LEAGUE MEET #3, January 7th
N5CTA Meet at Widener, Chester, PA 1/2 The N5Cta kicked off the first official meet of 2010 at Widener University on Saturday. The Dover High School boys and the Christiana High School girls were the team champions.
For the girls, Howard Tech’s Myra Wannamaker won the girls’ 200 (27.31), 400 (1:02.78), and anchored the winning 4x400M relay squad (4:22.21). Christiana’s Kehinde Akojie had two firsts and one second places, winning the 55M (7.55), coming in second in the 200 (27.61), and the helping the 4×200 capture 1st place (1:58.61). St.Mark’s Emily Frydrych was also a double winner in the 800 (2:26.57) and the 1600 (5:35.78).
In boys’ competition, Caravel’s Darwin Gibbons tied a meet record in the pole vault, clearing 13’6″. Howard Tech’s Teron Evans won three events, capturing the 55M individually (6.78), and running on the winning 4×200 relay (1:41.13) and the 4×400 relay (3:38.82).
CHRISTMAS CITY RELAYS, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 12/29
St. Marks’ Emily Frydrych took 1st place in the girls 1 mile (5:25.73) and 2nd in the girls 800(2:24.27) at the Christmas City Relays at Lehigh on Tuesday. Glasgow’s Leshon Collins also took 1st place overall in the boys’ 60M finals (7.08).Newark’s Osedebamen Iamokparia finished 1st overall in the boys’ 400 (52.89). Brandywine’s Hakeem Harris took 1st overall in the boys’ 200M (23.82). Concord’s girls sprint medley relay team of Erin Alpaugh, Chanelle Caple, Brandi Wesley, and Olivia Slate also captured the title in 4:36.20. Charter’s boys 4×400 relay team of Jon Fredericks, Eric Staats, Tahir West, and Nolan Weaver ran the fastest time of the day out of heat 1 in 3:48.50.
MARINE CORPS HOLIDAY CLASSIC, Armory Track, NY City 12/28
AI duPont and Caravel Academy competed in the Holiday Classic in NY on Monday night. Caravel’s Darwin Gibbons finished 5th in the pole Vault (14’0″).
