Bread & Butter Pickles

5 pounds of thickly sliced cucumbers
1/3 cup of pickling salt
3 cups of sugar
2 Tbsp mustard seed
Homemade Bread & Butter Pickles
1 1/2 tsp celery seed
8 medium onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves of garlic, sliced
4 cups of apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 tsp turmeric

Combine cucumbers, onions, salt, and garlic.  Refrigerate for 2 hours.  Drain well.

In Dutch oven, combine sugar, vinegar, mustard seed, turmeric, and celery seed.  Add drained cucumber mixture.  Bring to a boil.  Pack into clean, quart-sized canning jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.  Process for 10 minutes in a boiling-water canner.  Remove jars and allow to cool.
