MY TRAVEL AGENT'S suggested things to do in Queenstown:

1.  RIDE IN A JET BOAT

World famous as the ultimate jet boat experience, Shotover Jet has thrilled over 2.5 million people since 1970, and now it’s your turn! Take a unique breathtaking ride through dramatic and narrow Canyons, and hold on tight for Queenstown’s only exhilarating full 360° spins. ‘Can you handle the canyons?’ with award winning Shotover Jet, The World’s Most Exciting Jet Boat Ride, and the only company permitted to operate in the spectacular Shotover River Canyons.

2.  SEE THE LANDSCAPE OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS

If you've see the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you're already familiar with some of Queenstown's most picturesque places. Rugged mountains, lush beech forests, golden hill country and crystal clear waterways made Queenstown, Glenorchy and Arrowtown perfect for many Middle-earth locations. Fans will recognise the Ford of Bruinen, Dimrill Dale, Ithilien, Isengard, Lothlorien, Amon Hen and the Pillars of the Kings.

3.  TAKE THE GONDOLA UP TO THE SKYLINE RESTAURANT

Situated an easy five minute walk from central Queenstown, the gondola carries visitors high above Queenstown to the Skyline complex located on Bob’s Peak.  The best views in the region are found here, spread out in a spectacular 220º panorama. Numerous observation decks offer breathtaking views of Coronet Peak, The Remarkables mountain range and across Lake Wakatipu to Cecil and Walter Peaks. Truly magnificent and awe-inspiring!

4.  CRUISE LAKE WAKATIPU ON THE TSS EARNSLAW

Relive the elegance of turn of the century travel with a cruise aboard the TSS Earnslaw steamship.  Watch the stokers fuel the fire boxes, feel the heat from the boilers and hear the steam engines working as "the Lady" takes you across beautiful Lake Wakatipu.

5.  GET OFFROAD ON AN ATV QUAD BIKE

An activity for those who are in search of fun, a little adventure and splendid views set in Lord of the Rings country.  In comfort and safety, gently ride your way around exclusive off-road terrain and take in some of the most awesome, panoramic views Queenstown has to offer.  On your fully automatic, ATV quad bike you don’t have to worry about changing gears, all you need to concentrate on is the view. With full training on the bikes from our experienced guides and all safety clothing provided, you can be assured of a safe and enjoyable quad bike safari.

6.  BUNGY JUMP OFF A BRIDGE

If you've heard of Bungy, then you've heard of the Kawarau Bridge, home to the world's first and most famous of leaps. 43m above the Kawarau River.  Located at the gateway to Queenstown, it's an essential component of every New Zealand visitor's itinerary.  At the world's best-loved Bungy site, you can choose from a number of options; topple over backwards, forwards, with another person, spin or somersault. Kawarau Bridge Bungy is also the only Bungy in Queenstown where you can choose to bob above the water, touch it, or be fully immersed.
