Seeing Atoms

Atoms are too small to be seen with the naked eye.  Even light waves from the light microscope are too large to detect atoms.  Therefore, to detect atoms, one has to use things that are smaller than atoms:  electrons or electomagnetics forces.
  • SEM:  Scanning electron microscope
  • TEM:  Transmission electron microscope
  • AFM:  Atomic force microscope
