Laboratory Services -

The laboratory of HV Desai Eye Hospital is focussed on investigations related to various ophthalmic conditions. It has two components –

1.       Clinical Laboratory – Tests  done include basic haematology and biochemistry tests. The laboratory is well equipped and automated. It has following analysers and automation equipment –

Quality Control – The laboratory maintains strict quality control both Internal & External. We subscribe to EQAS of  CMC Vellore and have  fared well compared to other laboratories.

Haematology -
Hemoglobin - Men - 13.5 to 17.5 grams/dl
                        Women12.0 to 15.5 grams/dl
TLC4,500 to 11,000 WBCs per microliter (mcL). 
DLC
    • Neutrophils: 40 to 60%
    • Lymphocytes: 20 to 40%
    • Monocytes: 2 to 8%
    • Eosinophils: 1 to 4%
    • Basophils: 0.5 to 1%
    • Band (young neutrophil): 0 to 3%
ESR - Wintrobe - Men < 15mm/hr
                            Women - < 20mm/hr
The values are slightly higher in old age, in both genders

Platelet count
150,000 to 400,000 platelets per microliter (mcL)
Bleeding time 1 and 8 minutes
Clotting time2 to 6 minutes

Biochemistry -
Blood glucose -
  • Random - Below 200 mg/dl
  • Fasting - Below 108 mg/dl
  • Two hour post prandial - Below 140 mg/dl
Blood Urea -7 to 20 mg/dL
Blood creatinine - Men0.7 to 1.3 mg/dL 
                              Women - 0.6 to 1.1 mg/dL
Lipid profile -
  • Cholesterol - 200 mg/dL.
  • Serum triglycerides - 150 mg/dL
  • HDL - 
                    Healthy at 60 mg/dL and above.
                    Good between 40-50 for men and 50-59 mg/dL                         for women
                    Poor below 40 mg/dL (men) and below 50 mg/dL                     (women)
