Metric is Simple!

Let's Compare two measuring methodologies.

 Legacy Measures:

Inches use fractions, 3/4, 9/16, 17/32, etc.

1 foot = 12 inches.

1 yard = 3 feet or 36 inches.

1 fathom = 2 yards or 72 inches.

1 chain = 11 fathoms or 22 yards.

1 furlong = 10 chains.

1 mile = 8 furlongs, 80 chains, 880 fathoms, 1760 yards, 5280 feet, 63360 inches, or 0.86898 nautical mile.

1 acre = a rectangle, not square, 1 chain x 1 furlong, 43560 sq. feet, Land a dude with horse and plow can plow in one day.

1 cubic foot of water = 7.488 gallons, or 1728 cubic inches & weighs 62.427 pounds.

1 troy ounce = 1.097 avoirdupois ounces.

 THIS IS A Kludge!

Simple:

1 meter = 1000 millimeters (or 100 centimeters).

1 kilometer = 1000 meters.

1 hectare = 100 meters square. 10000 square meters, (About 1 football field + 1 end zone wide and long).

1 cubic centimeter (milliliter) of water, weighs 1 gram. 10 x 10 x 10 mm.

1 cubic liter of water, weighs 1 kilogram. 1000 milliliters.  100 x 100 x 100 mm

1 cubic meter of water, weighs 1 metric ton. 1000 kilograms. 1000 liters.  1000 x 1000 x 1000 mm

This is a Measurement System!

Which is simpler?

Which should America use?

If we make products in simple metric units, wouldn’t foreigners be more likely to buy them?

Isn’t that better than imposing trade tariffs?

Some companies have two production lines, one for domestic sales and one for foreign trade. Cost?

To convert between big and small units, you just move a decimal point. With our legacy system, you need a calculator.

Let's switch from Kludge to simple!

How can a bill be quickly introduced, passed and signed that finally finishes the metric conversion in the USA?

Lets get rid of miles graffiti from our highway signs so when you drive from The USA, to Canada, or Mexico, there is no confusion on speed limits and distances NOW!

Say social distancing, keep 2 meters apart. Not 6 feet, Don't use the Kludge!

Watch this example of how complicated our legacy U.S. system is.

Now if only they used millimeters, they could have solved the problem in 2 seconds!

using Kludge measures!

The U.S. Metric Association is a good source of weights and measures info.

We need to start somewhere with legislation. The following isn't perfect but:

Here is a sample of Proposed Metric Legislation.
