The Mount Vernon Park Gator swim team was one of six charter members of the Northern Virginia Swimming League, which was founded in 1956 to sponsor competitive swimming and diving events and activities among community swimming pools of Northern Virginia, and to develop in the children participating in this program, a love for the sport, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship. Today, the NVSL includes an estimated 17,000 swimmers from 102 community pools, seeded in 17 divisions based on the prior season's results. The NVSL’s goal of fostering sportsmanship is as paramount today as it was when league competition began. The Swim Team committee and coaches will continue to foster sportsmanship and a love of the sport at MVP.
Gators swim NVSL dual meets (aka A-meets) on Saturday mornings. We also swim Developmental Meets (aka B-meets) on Monday nights. There are also several internal team meets (Time Trials, Green & White, Romp in the Swamp), Invitational Meets (Fort Hunt Sportsman Relays and IM Invitational), and NVSL Relay and Individual Championship Meets at the Division and League levels.
