When our children were younger, we remember attending our first Senior Day at an A meet and being thoroughly impressed with what the Gator seniors had accomplished in and out of the pool, and where they were headed when they left high school. We remember thinking then that there must be something truly special about swimming if it was turning out kids like this.
We built this senior page so that all team members can get to know our graduating seniors, who will be honored at the final home A meet against Lakevale Estates. Some seniors have written their own "reflections of a Gator"; please click the links to read their thoughts.
Cameron has been swimming for the Gators since he was seven years old and has been fortunate enough to have set a few MVP records along the way. Cameron also swam four years for TC Williams High School and was co-captain of the swim team the past three years. Cameron has contributed to the Gators year round through his coaching in the summer and during the winter maintenance program for the past four years. He has also coached for NCAP for the past four years. He especially appreciates the opportunities he has been given to coach with and learn from Coach Paul and Coach Laurel. An honor roll student at TCW, Cameron was a member of the Debate Club, Model United Nations Club, and Religious Studies Club. He also played rec soccer for the past seven years. Cameron will be attending Old Dominion University in the fall under a scholarship where he will be majoring in graphic design within the College of Arts and Letters. Cameron thanks his parents for encouraging him to swim and allowing him to pursue his passion as a swim coach. Cameron has enjoyed his years as a Gator and will miss the team and the coaches and wishes all of them well in the future.
Maddie Finn was a gator since she was 5, and has loved every second of it. Her “claim to fame” was being in the 100 meter freestyle relay as an 8-year-old, but the joy of swimming and the team was far more memorable than any one race. She graduated from West Potomac High School in June, and will be attending Georgetown University in the School of Foreign Service in the fall.
Maddie's Reflections of a Gator
As a military kid with a very mobile upbringing, it is only appropriate Tres returned to MVP to complete his junior and senior years here. Once a Gator — always a Gator. Swimming, Coach Paul and the Gators offered Tres and his sisters a family and a community both when he was 10 and again now. Tres loves giving back; working with the young Gators of tomorrow. Outside the pool, Tres became a wrestler and a scholar. He will attend The Ohio State University as a ROTC scholarship recipient to pursue a technical degree in Engineering in the fall. Besides a Gator, Tres is a BUCKEYE.
Ian began swimming at age 12 for the Eldorado Aquatics Club in Tucson, AZ, where he spent the first couple of weeks in a lane with 6 year olds in order to learn all four strokes. After swimming under blue skies for 10 months (except when it hailed in April) he moved back to Alexandria where he swam for FBST before joining the MVP swim team the following summer. This is Ian’s fifth year as a Gator. When he began playing varsity lacrosse his freshman year he stopped swimming year-round, but continued to coach and swim in the summer. Ian graduated from West Potomac High School and will attend Dickinson College in the fall where he plans to study physics.
