The Summer School on Music Science and Technology Research (MuSTeR 2016) is a four day event held from 9 - 12 May, 2016 to foster and promote research and deeper understanding in several fields related to music science and technology. The school is organized by the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain, with the technical support of IEEE Signal Processing Society, Bangalore Chapter. The topics of the school are broad and cover the areas of audio and music signal processing, machine learning for music, semantic web technologies, science of music generation, perception and cognition, and music recording and production technologies, with an emphasis on scientific aspects of these areas. All topics may not be covered in each school, but successive schools will focus on specific topics. A part of the school is an intensive course on Audio Signal Processing for Music Applications (ASPMA), including hands on tutorials on processing of sounds and music. The advanced topics of the school focus on Indian art music and involves lectures and demos covering current research problems, approaches, datasets and tools for research. The school is mainly aimed at research students, professionals, musicians and enthusiasts who wish to learn more about, and pursue research in music science and technology. Undergraduate students with a good background in one of following topics - signal processing, machine learning, music production, psychology - are also encouraged to apply.
