Facilitator Information & Resources

Facilitators here is the latest information regarding the processes, procedures and resources for the classroom-based Youth Protection Training courses required by the State of Texas for any individual 18 years of age and older, staffing, participating or attending:
  • Day Camps (Tiger Cubs,Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts)
  • Summer Adventure Camp (Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts
  • Residence Camps (Summer & Winter Camps)
  • National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).

Facility Resources:

As you can see from the above page, with few exceptions, the approved training sessions will occur on most all Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM- 8:30 PM at the Trini Mendenhall Sosa Community Center, 1414 Wirt Road, Houston, Texas 77055 (on Wirt Road just north of Westview Drive). This is a Harris County facility. 

Please try to arrive at least 15 minute early.

Upon arrival, check out the easel located in the lobby with the room assignment for Mustang District BSA YPT. The facility assigns the room based on the their scheduling needs.

Our reservation includes the use of the DVD/TV combination that is on a mobile cart.  If it is not in the room, ask the attendant to bring it to you.

The DVD player is on the left side of the TV.  There are instructions on the side of the TV to help you orient the DVD so it is inserted correctly.  There is a remote to operate the DVD and TV.

Most rooms have a table you can use for registration, if not ask the attendant to provide you one.

There is usually a rack with chairs on it. So far we have been taking down the chairs from the rack prior to and returning them to the rack at the conclusion of the classes.

After the test are graded and before you collect the test:
  • Remember to have the individual legibly print at the top of their test:
    • Name, 
    • Unit Type and Number, 
    • Date 
    • Location
  • Issue the completed training cards
  • Give each attendee the letter from the Council Scout Executive on the procedures for reporting at one of these camps.
Before leaving the facility, notify the attendant that you have finished with the DVD/TV and that you are leaving so they may return the cart with the DVD/TV to a secured room.

Within 3 days of the completion of the training:
  • use one of the excel files under Electronic Reporting Sheet below to input all the information from the attendance sign in rosters. The BIG version has 50 rows and the smaller version has 12 entries, like the roster pages.  
    • I uploaded an example of an electronic version.  Make sure you input the instructors, data and I added the location in the BIG file.
  • Once completed, please submit a copy to the SHAC Training Reports at trainingreports@shac.org and carbon me at mudistricttraining@gmail.com.
  • Get the test, attendance rosters and a copy of the electronic training submission to the SHAC office - Program Services, Attention: Melanie Harrison
The material from the Kit need to be replenished before the next class.  You may either replenish it yourself or return it to me.

Facilitators Training Kit  Resources:

I have created 3 kits for use at the training sessions.  Each kit includes:
  • There is a copy of the BSA Youth Protection Training DVD.
  • As the maximum attendance, there are:
    • 50 tests
    • 50 cards
    • 50 copies of the Council Scout Executive letter to be given to each attendee
  • There is a complete Facilitator Guide.
  • There is copy of just the test from the Facilitator Guide.
  • There are a number of the special attendance sign in rosters
  • There is a supply of writing pens, please collect all given out.

Right now I don't have a sophisticated process to replenish the kits.  You may replenish the material yourself or return it to me as soon as possible.

Online Registration:

Online registration is now setup.  The link us just above the list of classes at the bottom of the YPT - State of Texas Requirements - Classroom Only page.

The online registration can capture all the information about the individual need to complete the electronic registration process and be more legible than the handwritten attendance sheets.  With the DoubleKnot report, you can easily cut & paste the result from the roster into the Electronic Reporting Sheet.

We are offering two Spanish speaking classes: Monday, 16 April and Monday, 21 May.
