We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Hillery Needham, the new orchestra director for Fairview Park Schools.
Mrs. Hillery Needham is the Director of Orchestras in Fairview Park Schools and is thrilled to join the faculty in the music department. Mrs. Needham had the wonderful opportunity to complete her student teaching here at Fairview with Mrs. Maskow ten years ago. She earned her Bachelors in Music Education from Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music and her Masters in Music Education from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with studies in string pedagogy, viola, and string teacher education research.
Mrs. Needham's teaching experience includes middle school orchestra and elementary general music in Bloomington, Indiana and elementary general music in the Westlake City School District. She has also served as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University where she taught a String Techniques course for undergraduate music education majors and the course Music for the Elementary Classroom where she taught future classroom teachers how to incorporate music into their daily lesson plans and curriculum. Mrs. Needham specializes in teaching children and adults at all levels, beginners through advanced. She has been teaching privately for twelve years and is currently the Director of the New Horizons Beginning Orchestra for adults through the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Outreach Program. Mrs. Needham has had extensive study in the Paul Rolland method and incorporates that into her teaching. She nurtures musical growth and fosters motivation in her students with positive encouragement and focus on the improvement of technique, theoretical and historical knowledge, and exposure to a wide variety of musical styles and experiences.
As a violist, Mrs. Needham has performed with the Bloomington Symphony, the Bloomington Pops Orchestra, and the Central Ohio Symphony. She studied viola with Matthew Michelic, Lousie Zeitlin, and Alan De Veritch. She has also studied string pedagogy with Dr. Brenda Brenner, Mimi Zweig, and Helga Winold.
Mrs. Needham is excited to be a part of the BW community again with her husband, Clint Needham, who was recently named the Composer-in-Residence. She has an energetic family life with her twin 4 year old boys, Avery & Rory, and her 2 year old girl named Molly.
