Update 28th Feb Lake Mountain Mountain Bike Fun Day
Murrindindi Cycle Club is pleased to announce that Ewen Gellie will
be our guest clinician for our skills clinics this Sunday at Lake
Photo by Faith Hunter Editor TREADLIE
Ewen is a former mtb
downhill and trials Aussie-champion and now a successful frame builder,
he has spent his riding career honing his bike handling skills. His
motto is "ride more difficult trails, ride them faster yet smoother".
Practicing slow-speed riding skills can translate into better control in
all riding situations.
This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best bike handlers
in Australia, visit the MCC marquee on Sunday to sign up, sessions start
at 11.30am and 1.30pm with strictly limited numbers. I'd suggest being
at the marquee at least 15 minutes before and being very nice to all
volunteers and to Ewen of course!
Bit of a bummer but our Lake
Mountain Super G race for Feb 28th has not captured the imagination
of people as we had hoped, so to quote Malcolm T we are being
“nimble” and are reformatting to a ride day instead of a race.
Those people who have entered online will receive full refunds.
Free shuttles starting at
10.00am from the ticket office back up to the Gerratys car park, these will
leave on the hour until the last one at 3.00pm, so you can ride the new
descending 12k xc trail a ton.
Free skills clinics throughout
the day, for beginners, intermediates and advanced, please check in with the
crew at the Murrindindi Cycle Club marquee at the Gerratys car park.
Demo bikes from Yarra Valley
Cycles going all day.
Fun kids event run by the club
at 1.00pm, utilising a close in trail, check in at the Murrindindi Cycle Club
A Murrindindi Cycle club working bee on the new trail at
Lake Mountain has buffed it out big time, it is fast and flowy, so get in a few
laps with the help of a shuttle.
This is where it is all happening
On the 16th Feb the club got to work on the Lake Mountain Super G trail,
it is buffed to within an inch of it’s life and ready for our event. Simon Goodman “leaning by example” always
wearing his hard hat. Also thanks to Lake Mountain for feeding the hungry workers
with a great spread.
A big thanks to the crew that turned out: Andrew Paul, Andrew Irwin, Anthony Bell, Anthony Slot, BJ, Dmitrii
Antanovskii, Neil Hall, Rob Skinner and Simon Goodman.

Best bike? Two steady climbs discount anything too heavy, some rocks, tech and lots of berms encourage a full squish, I guess we will find out on the day.

Finally getting a report and thank you out to everybody after this year’s Granite Grind race.
First off a big thanks to the committee and volunteers who made it happen, it takes a fair bit of prep and organization to get it all together on the day and we pulled it off again this year.
Rob Skinner, once again behind the scenes leading up to and behind the mike on the day, a champion.
Andrew Irwin, pushing the publicity beforehand, creating original trophies and still able to punch out some fast laps.
Andrew Paul, making the whole Lake Mountain side of things come together as well as doing trail upgrades.
Mary Hall, doing all the thankless pre, during and post race admin.
Dmitrii Antanovskii, being the web master, photographer and racer, thanks mate.
Peter Mckernan, I have to give him a hard time for being late, but he was there when we really needed him, thanks.
Simon Goodman, big thanks for all his work on the day, especially taking on the kids race.
Neil Hall, for organising all the volunteers, no volunteers = no race, and was still able to throw in a couple of quick laps.
We must also acknowledge the help of some of the staff from OEG, who really made a big difference on the day, thanks to Julia, Lornia, Damo, Maz, David, Toby and AJ, really appreciated your help and enthusiasm.
The race went well, with no mishaps, great weather and trail conditions and the club even made a profit again, final numbers pending ACCC audit!
Of course we have to mention the event’s sponsors, it would be pretty much impossible to pull it off without them.

Buxton Boot Camp has been done and run and as always it was good clean (well, maybe we got a little dusty) fun. Great turnout by the club both racing and volunteering. Big thanks go to Andrew Irwin, Andrew Paul, BJ, Neil Hall, and Lucas Russell for helping out at the race and earning some $s for the club in the process.

Don't forget it's an entire weekend of great riding events. Yarra Valley Cycles will be having Demo Days at Lake Mountain on both Saturday and Sunday, 22nd & 23rd of February. It will be a great chance to check out a selection of bikes from all of the Yarra Valley Brands. Please visit Yarra Valley Cycles
for details on what's on offer throughout the weekend. which means plenty of great prizes to be won. Everyone will have a chance to win a prize with a raffle after the races, including 2 nights accommodation at Marysville Garden Cottages, valued at $480 - but you have to be in it to win it and present at the raffle.
And Lake Mountain is hosting the LM2M on Sunday:
"A new event takes in a scenic route down Upper Taggerty Track and Lady Talbot Drive to Marysville. A mass start, this ride drops over 1 kilometre of vertical but during the 32km distance there is some climbing to do! Can be ridden hard in a big gear in a race with your mates or just chill and enjoy the journey past rainforest, waterfalls and the tall ghostly Mountain Ash."
Thanks to the following sponsors the Club is once again putting on the Granite Grind mountain bike race at Lake Mountain on the 22nd of Feb.
