Dr. Lawrence Murphy Smith - Biographical Sketch and Vita

Dr. L. Murphy Smith is a Professor of Accounting at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. His academic record includes numerous research articles, books and monographs, academic conference presentations, research grants, and awards for teaching and research. Dr. Smith has been ranked in the top one percent of accounting scholars in the United States according to published guides of research productivity among accounting professors and in the top .1 percent of authors on Social Sciences Research Network (SSRN.com) by downloaded articles (over 58,000). His work is highly referenced, having over 2,300 citations per Google Scholar.
His major areas of research include: ethics, financial reporting, international accounting, and information technology. Dr. Smith has provided litigation consulting on legal cases regarding ethics, international accounting, IFRS, auditing, intellectual property, forensic accounting, oil and gas accounting, and business valuation. In addition, he has given related keynote addresses and invited speaker presentations at academic and professional meetings.
Dr. Smith is involved in a variety of service roles in the accounting profession, the university, and the local community. During his career, he has held leadership positions in academic and professional organizations e.g. President of the American Accounting Association Gender Issues and Work-Life Balance Section and Council Member of the American Accounting Association. He and his wife, Kathy, have been married 38 years, and reside in Corpus Christi, Texas.
