C1 ASSESSMENT TODAY, PART 1!

Today we start class by doing workbook page 227, a pie chart and fraction based application question.

Students worked on this for about 15 minutes, it was then corrected & discussed.

Next we corrected homework, workbook page 118.

For the remainder of class students continued to work on MISSION #3, homework is the next year in mission #3.

Today we start class with the following bell work questions:

1. A spaghetti recipe for 15 people requires 900 g of ground beef. If you want to make spaghetti for 50 people, how much ground beef will you need?
2. Of the 750 students at Central Junior High School, 405 are girls. What percentage of the students are boys?

Students worked for about 10 minutes then we corrected and discussed the questions.

Today's lesson focused on INTEREST AND INTEREST RATES, looking at how money can grow in an RESP. In class we worked up to at least line 5. We will continue with this mission tomorrow in class.

HOMEWORK TONIGHT IS WORKBOOK PAGE 118 #6.

Today we start class with the following bell work questions:

1. Brittany’s new snowboard was on sale, she paid \$495 for it, the snowboard was on sale for 40% off its original value. What was the original price of the snowboard?
2. Nick, Lenny and Jesse won \$250 000 in a lottery. The jackpot will be divided among them based on their initial contributions. If Nick receives 30 % of the jackpot and Lenny receives 45 %. How much money should Jesse receive?

Students worked on these for about 10 minutes, we then corrected them.

Today is a work session class, students worked on workbook pages 106 + 107 + 108.

As they finished 2-3 questions they checked their solutions with me!

Many students are starting to show up to math class without their workbooks, as of Monday next week they will be sent to the office for a late slip to remind them to show up prepared!

SPECIAL NOTE FOR 818 WHO MISSED MOST OF MATH CLASS YESTERDAY!

For 818 we started class with the same bell work and corrected.

Then we corrected the 3 questions from slide 1 of the lesson.

Next we discussed taxes & discount, students then worked on workbook pages 110 + 111, to be finished for homework if not finished in class!

Today we start class with some PERCENT bell work questions:

1. 20% of the books on a shelf of 60 books are cookbooks. How many cookbooks are there?
2. 15 out of 75 books on a shelf are healthy living books. What percentage of the books are healthy living books?
3. 30% of the books on a shelf are math books. If there are 21 math books, what is the total number of books on the shelf?

Students worked on these for about 10 minutes, we then discussed and corrected them!

Today we reviewed TAX and DISCOUNT percent concepts then students worked on missions 1 & 2 in their workbook, pages 109 + 110, to be finished for homework if not completed in class.

*EXCEPT FOR 818, we missed math due to an assembly, they only have 3 percent questions listed above!

Today we start class with PROPORTION BELL QUESTIONS.

Once done, we corrected and then students worked on a new proportion handout.

This was corrected as the students worked. If done this students then had time to add to their memory aids.

Today we start class with some Christmas math puzzles, we did 4 then corrected homework.

Our lesson today focused on 'PROPORTIONAL GRAPHS', the definition and being able to recognize one.

The second half of class was a work session, workbook pages 100 +101 +102 +103+ 104, these are to be finished for homework if not completed in class!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

FRIDAY WE WILL BE PLAYING CONCENTRATION MATH, a game that focuses on fractions, decimals, percents and equivalent ratios! :)

Started class with a PROPORTION [equivalent fraction] handout, students worked on this for 15 minutes, then we corrected it.

Today lesson focused on how to determine if a pair of ratios or rates are equivalent.

Slides 13 to 15 were covered and workbook page 97 was assigned.

Today we start class with another FRACTION BELL WORK, this time with BEDMAS. Solutions can be found with my memory aid help page.

Students worked for half the class, we discussed the steps and corrected.

Today class was the learning activity on page 93, students worked in pairs with a handful of centimeter cubes, this page is to be finished for homework!

Today we start class with following graphing situation, students read the situation, created a table of values and then created a broken line graph of the situation.

Once done and corrected students moved on to graph the situation on page 238 in the workbook!

Today we start class by doing some percent review bell work:

1. Harvey bought a \$1455 television set, \$299.89 speaker and a \$79.99 DVD player. What was the total cost?
2. Beth received 16% of the \$55 895.00 family inheritance. How much money did she get?

These were discussed and corrected.

Next students worked on the MODES question on pages 244+245 in their workbook.

Once done students then worked on pages 87 + 88, to be finished for homework if not finished in class.

We discussed the importance of creating a table of values based on the information, then graph the data from the table of values to the graph.

Today's class is a work session, workbook page 81 + 82.

Today's lessons focussed on GRAPHS as an information source. We covered slides 13 to 17.

Students then worked on workbook pages 78 + 79 + 80, to be finished for homework if not finished in class.

Today we start class by working on page 73 in the workbook for 15 minutes, this is Cartesian Plane practice.

Today's math lesson focusses on TABLES OF VALUES & RULES.

We covered slides 8 to 12 then students worked on workbook pages 76 + 77, to be finished for homework.

Today we start class with a 'WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THE CARTESIAN PLANE' BELL WORK?

Students opened their workbook to page 252, drew and labelled a CARTESIAN PLANE and as many parts as they could from memory.

Next we reviewed the parts and discussed them.

Today is a work session math class, students worked on workbook pages 71 + 72 + 73, homework is to get test signed and do test corrections.

Next we started our new unit, in class we covered slides 1-7, students took notes.

Today we start math class by doing question #20 on page 209. Students worked on this for about 10 minutes, we then discussed/solved it to check for understanding.

Next homework was corrected, workbook pages 63 + 64.

Once done corrections today was another work session, students worked on workbook page 65 and 66 if they finished 65.

It's Friday so no math homework but students know they have a test on Tuesday and should be updating their MEMORY AIDS!!!

Today we start class by reviewing 3 step equations, students completed 3 equations from workbook page 59, as they finished their work they checked in with me and I corrected the work.

We spent about 25-30 minutes practicing solving multi-step equations.

The second half of class was spent looking at how ALGEBRA can help us with problem solving. We did 2 questions together on page 61 [#s 1 & 3]. Next we did # 7 on page 62 together [3 unknowns]. Homework tonight is to finish page 62.

Once done these questions we corrected and discussed 3 step equations, we looked at slide 55 in the lesson and then students worked on page 58 in the workbook, 2 equations are to be solved for homework.

Today's math lesson was an introduction to SOLVING 1 step equations!

I apologize for not updating... had technical issues, here's what we are up to this week:

• Monday: Intro to ALGEBRA, how to simplify with brackets. New learning was hot to MULTIPLY & DIVIDE with algebraic expressions. HW was workbook 39 + 40.
• Tuesday: Translate this bell work [below], corrected HW then we looked at simplifying with more than 1 set of brackets, workbook page 41.
• Wednesday; Translate this bell work [below], corrected homework, then students worked on workbook pages 42 + 43. Last 10 minutes of class I returned their test from last week, discussed it but did not correct it, that is homework. Students can see me at lunch review difficult parts, re-learn the content and then re-take on Monday if needed!

Once done students worked on an ALGEBRA learning activity, reading various phrases/tasks and completing them. As 3 questions were completed students checked in with the teacher to ensure answers were correct!

Today we are doing POLYGON review all class in a learning activity called chunking!

The student will receive 1 question/word problem at a time, as they finish they check in with me to see if they have the correct solution!

There are 5 or 6 questions for them to work through.

If done all questions they will make sure their memory aid is ready for tomorrow's test on POLYGONS.

Today we start class with a POLYGON CONSTRUCTION BELL WORK:

Construct 3 or more adjacent regular polygons with 5 or more sides and side lengths of 2 cm.

Find a & A for each polygon. See diagram below.

Once done students worked on workbook page 15, if not finished in class this is homework.

Students also received their C1 back, we reviewed it. It should be signed and returned to please.

Once done, students worked on workbook pages 9 + 10 + 13, pages 8 + 9 were corrected in class. PAGE 10 is homework!

Today we continue to practice with our new area of a REGULAR POLYGON formula: A = P (a)/2

We also looked at how to find the APOTHEM in each regular polygon we draw so that we can find the area! There's a video in the "How-to" section on how to do this!

Next we looked at the last few slides of the polygon powerpoint, we discussed perimeter and then how to find the AREA of a REGULAR POLYGON.

Students then worked in their workbook on pages 5 + 6, these are to be finished for homework tonight!

Once done [20-25 minutes] students worked on workbook pages 4+5+6.

Once all C4U's were complete students constructed a regular decagon with a perimeter of 30 cm using a ruler and protractor.

Today we start class with some formula bell work to remember what we learned last week:

• We reviewed all formulas prior to individual work completion.

September 10 continued... once done correcting the bell work we reviewed the steps to draw regular polygons by creating a regular HEPTAGON WITH A PERIMETER OF 14 cm.

• Using a ruler and protractor to construct.

Homework for Monday, September 10 is to contruct a NONAGON with a perimeter of 22.5 cm!

Today in math we start focusing on REGULAR POLYGONS, this is our focus for this unit. We start to learn how to construct regular polygons with a ruler and protractor, we will continue with this on Monday.

We covered slides 19 to 24 in class, no homework... it's the weekend, enjoy it!

4. Calculator [2-line display if possible];

Today we started class by reviewing 1 step equations, then students spent 15 minutes working on workbook pages 50 + 51.

Math lesson today was equations with 2 steps.

After the lesson students worked on workbook page 54 + 55, even #s only.

WORKBOOK PAGES 50 + 51 even #s only is homework!

Students are encouraged to watch the how to videos if they are uncertain as to how to solve 1 or 2 step equations.
