Mammals Rabbits & Rodents

 Archimede Seguso Rabbit

This ugly clear glass rabbit was made by Archimede Seguso. It is acid stamped with the company name on bottom. The cheeks of the rabbit are pulled into two lumps. I wonder if it was made to hold a card or some other object.

Cenedese Animal on Log
I'm not sure what this animal on a log is supposed to be. It is 9.5" long and weighs 5 lb 6 oz. It has Cenedese shield and strip labels. The animal looks like a marmot to me. Italy has the alpine marmot that lives in the Alps. North America has its own marmot, affectionately known as woodchuck or groundhog.

Archimede Seguso Alabastro Bunny Rabbit
This pink bunny rabbit was made by Archimede Seguso. It is 4.75" (12 cm) long. Photo is courtesy of Dan Farrell of Fossilfly's Murano Glass Board.

Vincenzo Nason Rabbit

These rabbits are 3.5-3.75" (8.9-9.5 cm) tall. Nason makes this design in different colors. The rabbit has distinctive ears and appears to be washing its nose. The clear glass rabbit has an E&R (Ebeling & Reuss, Pennsylvania) Import label. The rabbit on the right is made using a sfumato technique (gray effect). Photo of the sfumato rabbit is courtesy of Dan Farrell.

Archimede Seguso Rabbit

This beautiful rabbit was made using a polveri technique. This technique uses colored glass that is ground into a fine powder and included in the glass. The turquoise polveri is overlaid with gold below. The rabbit has an Archimede Seguso label on the bottom. The rabbit is 3.25" (8.3 cm) long and 2.75" (7 cm) tall. Photos are courtesy of Lynn Ferry.

Archimede Seguso Rabbit
This wonderful bunny rabbit is very similar to the one above in design. This is the first time I've seen this design in black with aventurine. It is a very nice effect. The bunny is 5" (12.7 cm) long and 3.25" (8.2 cm) tall. It is signed "Seguso Murano" on bottom. The rabbit has the pulled cheeks that you find in many of Archimede's rabbits.

Archimede Seguso Squirrel
This squirrel is 5.75" tall to the tip of the tail. It was made by Archimede Seguso as a piece in the bianco nero fantasy line. It has black and white paste glass applied to the surface of the squirrel.

Bucella Rabbit
This cute rabbit has white spatter and gold. It was made by Bucella Cristalli. The original label is still in place on the back. Photo is courtesy of Rosemary Pearce.

Licio Zanetti Rabbit
This heavy rabbit is signed Zanetti L on bottom. It has punched eyes and a rather large tail.

Jordan Import Company (JICO) Squirrel
This sommerso squirrel is 7.5" (19 cm) tall. It has JICO import sticker on its side. JICO imported much glass from Murano. From what is written, some was made at their own furnace, while other glass was made by other companies. I suspect the squirrel is from the 1960s, but don't know for sure. Photo is courtesy of David Hoffman.

Cenedese Rabbit

This quizzical rabbit stands 5.5" (14 cm) tall. It has a paper Cenedese label on bottom. Photos are courtesy of Denver Edwards.
