Birds by Fratelli Toso 1

Fratelli Toso Dove
This is a 6" (15.2 cm) long confetti bird. This form is done in different decorations. There is a Fratelli Toso label on bottom.

Fratelli Toso Bird
This 5 1/8" (13 cm) blue bullicante bird has strings of blue pigment between the bubbles -- a technique used often by Fratelli Toso. The tail is a single piece, instead of having individual feathers. This bird is the same basic design as the two in the right column, but is smaller and less opaline.

Fratelli Toso Woodpecker Perfume Atomizer for Irice
This whimsical 5.75" (14.6 cm) perfume atomizer was made by Fratelli Toso for Irice. The F'lli Toso label is still in place on the woodpecker's neck. It is the type that was used in the 1970s.

Fratelli Toso Bird

These birds are 4.5-5.5" (11.4-14 cm) long. The opaline one with aubergine accents has a Fratelli Toso label on bottom. Photo of the bird on the top left is courtesy of David Fisher. Photo of the pink bird on bottom is courtesy of Dan Farrell.

Fratelli Toso Overshot Swan Dishes

This dishes come in a variety of sizes. The base glass is clear and rolled in colored overshot, often pink or mint green. The green swan has wings applied. The pink swan does not. The glass of the bowl may be ribbed or diamond quilt or rippled. Fratelli Toso makes several shapes of ordinary bowls in this type of overshot glass. It is often misattributed to Barovier & Toso, but looks little like their rugidioso pieces. The techniques are different.

Fratelli Toso Bullicante Birds

Fratelli Toso made a lot of simple birds. Many of them carried their wings high and separate on their back. Others did not have discernable wings. These birds are in the latter group. One bird has its tail high and has 8 tail feathers. The other holds its tail more level and has 6 tail feathers. The bubbles are connected with strings of strings of pigment. Each bird is 5" (12.5 cm) long. The up-tail bird has a Fratelli Toso label on bottom.

Fratelli Toso Elegant Bird

Fratelli Toso made several birds similar to this one on this type pedestal (five wavy crimps on the pedestal bottom). Some had short tails and other long. They were made with different decors. This bird is broken, so the angle of attachment looks odd. It was about 12" (30.5 cm) tall.
