A Theory About Laziness

If you've been following this site, you'll know that I've only made one brickfilm in the past 9 months. This is for many reasons, but the number one reason is laziness, and for me, it doesn't just happen to me with brickfilming. It happens whenever I have something to do that I don't have to do immediately. This is a common problem with most people in the world, and right now I'm wondering: Why? Why do we slack off for so long on doing things? Why don't we just get them over with so we don't have to think about doing them?

The main reason, I think, is because it's human nature to act on instinct instead of thinking about our decisions. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it's how we survive. When we are hungry, we get food. When we are thirsty, we get water. When we are hurt, we find a way to heal.  Any immediate survival problems that we have, we automatically search out a way to fix them.

This creates a problem with things that we are often lazy about, however. Because doing things such as working on projects and meeting deadlines is not essential to staying alive, we tend to ignore it in favor of we feel like doing at that particular moment. Interestingly enough, the urge to work on something usually does not come back until we have just enough time left until the deadline in order to make a rushed version of it.

Many people would like to know how to combat their laziness in order to be more productive. Based on this theory, it would seem that we should start working on something as soon as we know that we have to do it. Unfortunately, most people are not that motivated to start doing things right away, especially if they don't really like doing them.  My advice is doing a little chunk of the project as soon as you know about it , in order to give yourself some momentum to finish the rest of it. It's probably not that original, but I hope it helps.

The Beginning of the End

So, I've decided to start one of these "blog" things that I see all over the internet. Um... I don't really have much I want to post right now. Aw well, at least I got the first post done. I'll work on a header image later.
