to where are we bound

Benjamin Mueller’s insightful poetry often examines challenging moments of transition or conflict, instances requiring a wise response and explaining the possible consequences one might find in the future. Exploring times of leave-taking, loss, or lingering damage that test the human spirit, Mueller’s lucent lines frequently illuminate for readers the bleak way perceived ahead, perhaps requiring faith in the purpose of life but eventually reinforcing hope for a better tomorrow with “next season’s crop.”

–Edward Byrne, Editor of Valparaiso Poetry Review

“In Benjamin Mueller’s excellent first collection, TO WHERE ARE WE BOUND, we witness a speaker’s adherence toward that of memory and loss: a world where fire “draws breath / and chokes life,” and a world where ghosts are “hesitant to leave.” What remains is a steadfast hold on “all that’s beyond our reach,” the necessary proof that Mueller will never leave behind.”

–Keith Montesano (author of HOUSEFIRE ELEGIES)
