Gear Exchange Open for Business!

posted Apr 3, 2011, 5:32 PM by Troop41 News   [ updated Apr 4, 2011, 6:23 AM ]

With new Scouts joining the Troop, older Scouts going off to College and others simply growing out of their gear, it appears we have a terrific opportunity to reduce waste, recycle perfectly good gear by passing it to others who can make good (re)use of it :)  So follow the nav link at the left to Gear Exchange and check it out!  Adults, take a look in your attics, basements, garages... anywhere some old gear maybe be hiding and add it to the list.  Scouts, if you need some gear, please check the Gear Exchange first before asking for something new.  Please remember to delete your entry once the available gear or fulfilled request for gear is no longer active.

Be sure to follow the Forms link in the navigation bar on the left side of each page to download the permission slips for the September and October campouts.  Signed forms must be handed in ahead of the event (the sooner the better so we can plan the necessary resources for the trips.)  You can follow this link to the documents: Forms

Troop 41 dominates Camporee Competition

posted May 24, 2010, 7:05 AM by Troop41 News

Mountain Lakes fielded two patrols this past weekend at the Fishawack Camporee competition at the BSA campgrounds near Mt Allamuchy.  The events included shotgun and rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, two-man saw, knot tying, fire building, "blind" rowing (two scouts row blindfolded while a third directs them around a course) and casting accuracy with a fishing pole.  The A Patrol led by Rory Daniels took first place overall on the strength of their fire building (one match, 22 minutes), shotgun performance (Eamon Reilly hit two out of three clay birds), and rowing (Chris Stitt guided his crew expertly).  The Green Beret Patrol led by Conor Reilly took second place and excelled at rowing, shotgun and rifle.

2010 Merit Badge Weekend

posted May 20, 2010, 11:40 PM by Troop41 News   [ updated May 20, 2010, 11:49 PM ]

This past weekend about a dozen boys spent the weekend at Camp Glen Gray to hone their scouting skills and garner some well-earned merit badges.  Several new scouts worked on advancing to Scout rank.  A small group earned the Wilderness Survival badge by learning first aid, fire making and foraging.  They then built shelters out of materials they found and slept in their shelter that evening.  Others earned Fireman Chit, Totin' Chip and other merit badges and achievements.

Below, Conor Reilly relaxes in front of his shelter.  Check the Photo Albums section for more photos and videos.

Of course, some of the Dad's "supervised" the dinner preparations from the relative comfort of a camp chair :)

Troop 41 Re-enacts Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg

posted May 20, 2010, 11:31 PM by Troop41 News

After hiking for several miles around the historic Gettysburg battlefield, the boys of Troop 41 formed a line, accompanied by another troop who volunteered to join our "double time", and re-enacted Pickett's charge.  In the end they were tired (photo below) but unscathed.  For the complete photo album of the 2010 Gettysburg trip, follow the "Photo Albums" link in the navigation bar to the left.
