WeBWorK Homework & Quizzes

WeBWorK

It is every students responsibility to attempt each quiz well in advance of each due date.

Technical difficulties experienced the day of the due date are not acceptable excuses for missing a quiz deadline.

If you attempt a quiz and have any technical issues, do not use another quiz attempt before resolving the issue. Instead, meet with your instructor to determine the nature of the issue (Usually this is determined by taking your second attempt in their presence).

Extra quiz attempts are provided only to accommodate any technical difficulties that may arise. Extra attempts are not provided to improve upon previous quiz attempt scores. As such, extra quiz attempts beyond the 3 attempts provided, for any reason whatsoever, will not be granted.

WeBWorK is an online homework system that is worth 15% of your overall grade. As such, WeBWorK is required for the course. WeBWorK can be accessed here using your msu net id and password. Access is free for the the first month. Students who fail to make payment before the deadline will be locked out of their account. If you are confident you will remain enrolled in the class, please make your payment as soon as payment opens. Payment information can be found here.

WeBWorK practice and quiz sets will available according to the dates provided in WeBWorK.

WeBWorK Homework(Practice Problems)

The assessed component of WeBWorK is the WeBWorK quizzes. The WeBWorK homework(practice problems) do not count for credit towards your grade but before you can attempt a quiz you must complete the corresponding homework(practice problem) set.

WeBWorK Homework Quizzes

Each homework set has a corresponding WeBWorK homework quiz you should complete only after completing that WeBWorK homework set. Once you have completed a homework set and are ready to attempt the quiz, scroll to the bottom of the homework sets to find the corresponding quiz. As you attempt each quiz please remember the following.

  • Solve all the questions and write down your work on paper before entering any answers into the browser.

  • Unless otherwise specified, all answers should be entered in exact form.

  • After checking your work enter each answer and click the "SAVE and Preview" button.

  • When you're finished click "Grade Test" to submit your quiz for grading.

    • In our experience all issues where students claim that WeBWorK is "erasing their answers" can be resolved by following the above procedure.

  • Quizzes should be completed on your own.

    • The purpose of the WeBWorK homework quizzes is to test your knowledge of the homework content you previously completed to assess your understanding of the material leading up to the exams. Exams make up 70% of your grade so you should use WeBWorK quizzes as a tool to indicate your understanding of the content of the corresponding homework.

  • You will have a finite amount of time to submit a WeBWorK homework quiz.

    • The remaining time is displayed in the top right corner of the quiz interface. The provided time is roughly 4 times the amount you should need in an in class test.

  • You may take up to 3 versions of each WeBWorK homework quiz(with randomized problems).

    • Your final quiz score will be the highest score of the quizzes you attempted.

  • WeBWorK homework quizzes follow the same grading dates as their corresponding homework sets.

Due Date Extension

  • Students are allowed at least two weeks to complete each WeBWorK homework and quiz assignment. The length of time provided is meant to account for any technical difficulties or personal issues a student may encounter during that time. As such all students should begin working on WeBWorK homework and quiz sets as soon as they become available and finish each set well before the due date.

    • Because we provide ample time for each WeBWorK homework and quiz, the due dates will not be extended due to technical difficulties or personal issues(sickness, court date, travel, etc...).

Important Note

Some students have reported that after they enter answers for a quiz and submit the quiz, their quiz answers are not submitted and erased. This will happen anytime you open a new browser tab/window after opening a quiz. To avoid this issue, open any tabs/windows you may want to reference before opening the quiz to review that material. Then when you are ready, start the quiz. Once the quiz is opened you should not open any new tabs/windows until you have submitted your quiz.
