Week 1 Student Checklist

Hopefully you've had a chance to read through the website and now have a good understanding of the course and our policies. To help you get off to a good start we have provided a week 1 student checklist below. The course schedule tab provides a weekly description of the sections we will cover during lecture, labs, and exam dates.

The following is a list of the coursework you should complete during the first week of class

• WeBWorK

  • Start/finish WeBWorK practice and quiz sets 1 and 2

    • When you finish a homework set don't forget to take the corresponding WW homework quiz. Scroll to the bottom of the WW main page to access the homework quiz link.

  • Make sure you can access Piazza. Post a question to get familiar!

• D2L

  • Take D2L Quiz 0 (Practice Quiz)

    • To access the quiz go to our D2L page, click the "Quizzes" tab, then click the link for Quiz 0

    • This will require you to set up the proctoring software Respondus. If you have any technical issues you are expected to bring them to our attention immediately and get them resolved the first week of classes.

    • This quiz is not for credit but required to take later quizzes/minitests.

• Lecture

  • Attend a synchronous live lecture or watch the corresponding video lecture.

    • You may choose whichever you prefer, you are not required to attend a live lecture.

    • Download and finish the course notes for 1.1,1.2,1.3,&2.1(Lecture 1).

• Focus Session

  • Download the pre-activity and focus session 1.

  • Complete the pre-activity.

  • Attend your focus session.

  • Complete the corresponding post focus session activity 1 in D2L.

Important Note

The first WeBWorK set is open. Using your MSU netid and password, log into WeBWorK(WeBWorK Student Portal) and complete the WeBWorK tutorial and first WeBWorK quiz.

WeBWorK payment will open after the first few weeks of class. At that time follow the payment instructions displayed in the WeBWork student portal to pay the WeBWorK subscription fee.

• • The WeBWorK payment is non-refundable. If you are uncertain that you will stay enrolled in the course you should wait to make payment until you decide you will not drop the course.

  • Students who fail to pay before the WeBWorK payment deadline will be locked out of their account until their payment has been process(which can take up to a day). Due dates will not be extended for those students who fail to pay before the deadline.
