Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church is located in a rural area approximately halfway between Lexington and Staunton. The church sits on a hill above Route 11 near the boundary between Augusta and Rockbridge Counties. It is surrounded by a church supported cemetery that includes graves dating before the current church building was built.

In addition to being a part of the local community, the church is part of the Maury River Mission Community, a group of 20 Presbyterian churches that work together to support each other and a common vision for the Presbyterian Church.

Area attractions include the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station which includes McCormick's Farm and hiking trails, a Carnival in June sponsored by the Raphine Volunteer Fire Department and other special events and festivals sponsored by businesses and non-profit organizations.
