"Sieve” (pronounced: siv)
1.) A mesh utensil which a substance is sifted or strained through.
2.) A bad, “leaky” goaltender that lets too many goals into his net, ultimately causing his own team to lose the game.
A sieve, in our usage (#2), is the most derogatory thing you can call an opposing goaltender without resorting to profanity. Our section will use this word a lot, as do many hockey student sections. So to speak, the word "Sieve!" and "Sieving the goaltender" is a college hockey-wide tradition.
