SafeAssign is a plagiarism detection tool in Blackboard. Students submissions are checked against the following:
· The Internet
· Proquest/ABI Inform
· Morgan’s Institutional Database: Papers submitted through Morgan’s SafeAssign
· Global Reference Database: Papers submitted to SafeAssign — also prevents plagiarism of students work.
SafeAssign can be used in two ways.
- Instructors can set up SafeAssignments in their Blackboard courses and let students submit papers to these assignments, in a way very similar to the one provided currently by Blackboard Learning System. As students submit papers, they are checked against SafeAssign's comprehensive databases of source material. The papers will then be delivered to instructors through the Blackboard Learning System together with the originality reports, with the results of the matching process, attached to them.
- Instructors may upload papers directly with the Direct Submit feature, without student involvement. Special note for Mac Safari Users: Safari users need to enable third party cookies to use third party products such as SafeAssign. Please have all Safari users who want to be able to Direct Submit do the following, Open up Safari > click the little gear/settings button on the upper right hand side of the page > Preferences > Security > in the cookies section select always. This will allow them to use the direct submit option in SafeAssign.
Attached are instructions for creating an assignment, viewing a SafeAssign Report, and Grading a SafeAssignment, as well as for using the Direct Submit option.
