  • All writing must be reviewed with a group member before bringing for editing to Dr. Jones. Both the writing center and the English TA in 104 Simrall can provide additional help in editing manuscripts.
  • All travel arrangements must comply with MSU policy.
  • In the summer, students on wages don't automatically have Simrall building access -- remind Dr. Jones to request this.

Thesis and Dissertation standards

The Office of Thesis and Dissertation Format Review provides workshops and formatting requirements for MSU theses. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the services that the Office of Thesis and Dissertation Format Review offers. Familiarity with Formatting Guidelines and Tips early in the process will eliminate last minute formatting issues for students.

In response to a question that is regularly asked, please note that the Approval/Signature Page for the document should bear the names and titles of the full committee, the graduate coordinator, and the dean of the college. The dean of the office of graduate studies or one of the associate deans will sign the approval page. The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies is the primary signatory for the dean.

The usual practice has been for the student to bring a copy of his/her abstract and spend a few minutes discussing research, results, publications, etc. It is helpful if the student will call ahead for an appointment (usually about 15 minutes) so that we can be sure someone is available to sign the document.
