Objective: 
  • I can identify important contributions of Islamic civilization, and think about how they have impacted our world.
Warm-up: We are going to watch a video in which Muslim's from the Bay Area talk about their experience of the hajj. After you watch, answer this question on your warm-up.
  • What does participating in the hajj mean to these people? (There are many possible answers to this question - try to identify at least one thing that is said)
HW: Think about a subject that you might be interested in focusing on for your Islam research project.

What is salat? What is zakat, what is siyam? How do these three things relate to Islam?

HW: Finish processing assignment for chapter 9 (p.15 of your packet)

  •  I can understand how Islam spread during and after Muhammad's lifetime.
Warm-up: Get out your warm-up paper and your note packet from last week. Answer this question: Why is Jerusalem a sacred site for the Muslim religion? Jerusalem also contains holy sites for Christianity and Judaism--how do you think this might affect the history of the city?

HW: Finish "Life of Muhammad - Cause and Effect" for tomorrow.
