Home and Family

This unit examines the American family, an idea we will trace throughout the duration of the course.  By studying Miller's Death of a Salesman, we will also see the notion of the American Dream at its prime--the 1940s--which will give us perspective as we look to early American pieces that define what we see in Salesman.  While we acquaint ourselves with themes common to all American literature, we will also acquaint ourselves with a deep focus on how we write using the narrative style as a medium.  This unit will also begin our journey towards cognizance of (and further development of) our own writing styles and our voices as writers.  This introductory Home and Family unit will set the foundation for the rest of the year together.
