This unit will incorporate youth culture with contemporary and modern literature, including films, musical lyrics, non-fiction articles, graphic novels, historical speeches and recently published short stories and poems.
It will use a variety of forms and genres to evaluate how language arts portrays, influences and reflects our history, our community and our world. It will start with modern literature and move into contemporary literature and survey both famous and local authors, artists and leaders.
This course will also focus on performance. Students will not only reflect on historical voices, but they will be honing their own voice. It will be equals parts input and output. They will be expected to publish, perform and perfect their skills.
