MAT 590: Differentiating for Learning Community

This course is offered at Concordia University to help new teachers develop a pedagogy that encourages, supports and reflects all learners. We will look specifically how to structure a classroom for equity, how to acknowledge and empower students of poverty and how to differentiate lessons that reach a variety of abilities.

The overall objectives are to strike up dialogue that gets us to think critically about classroom work. Then we will participate in activities that expand our understand of ourselves and the world around us. These will prepare us for classroom work and allow us to recreate the valuable experiences for our students. Through our research, reading and class work, we will develop pedagogies and practices that unite the teacher and their students into a community that can achieve greatness: both academically and socially.
