What is WHIG?
WHIG = Women's Health Interest Group. Founded two years ago, WHIG recognizes the importance of women's specific health needs, particularly where women are often times the primary care givers in a community, and therefore their health affects the health of the whole population. The mission of WHIG is to keep current in the literature of women's health, be actively involved in the local community by volunteering and and learning about women's health issues in the Negev, and to supplement our curriculum with information specific to our fields of interest. As WHIG continues to evolve, its leaders have recognized the need to bring GLBTQ specific health issues to MSIH, and I plan to make that a priority in the upcoming year.
What are WHIG's goals for the year?
See below for our current projects. However we are always looking for new ideas, so please don't hesitate to offer your suggestions!
What events is WHIG interested in hosting?

2. Refugee Women's Pregnancy Group:
In the last couple of years, thousands of refugees from Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan have come to Israel seeking asylum. Up until this year, the majority of the refugees and the social service agencies helping them were centered around Tel Aviv. However, there has recently been a huge influx of refugees in the south of Israel, particularly in Arad. We are currently involved in a Pregnancy Support group which consists of a) meetings, childbirth classes, and basic prenatal care held bimonthly in Arad, and b) Birth Attendant support when women come to Soroka to deliver. A Birth Attendant training course was held this past year, and we hope to hold another one this year. Participants will be put on an call rotating schedule.

3. Vagina Monologues: A annual MSIH student production which fundraises for Circle of Health International. whose mission is to build the capacity of women's health care providers in crisis settings. We need people who are interesting in participating, as well as helping with other aspects of the production.

We need people to fill the following roles:
1) Journal article facilitator
2) Guest speaker coordinator
3) Fundraiser planner/coordinator
4) GLBTQ Committee Chair
