for solo piri

Duration: 7'30"

When I was asked to compose a piece for piri, I wanted to connect the instrument with the environment from which it comes. Although many people think first of the excitement of Seoul when they think of Korea, the beautiful wildflowers found throughout the countryside are one of poignant images of Korea for me. These subtle and delicate and gentle wildflowers of Korea's countryside were the inspiration for my work. Much of my piece is made up of sustained melodies that I hope reflect the special shapes of these individual flowers, while other more active sections may hint at of bright bursts of color.
