New rakes are being inducted for Mumbai's suburban network to replace the old rakes as well as to add more capacity. These rakes are being purchased under the Mumbai Urban transport project. Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited (MRVC) is the executing agency. These rakes have some new features like forced ventilation, better lighting, smoother ride quality, improved looks and quick acceleration & braking. But there are some serious drawbacks in these rakes. Click here to know about the drawbacks, and measures taken by MRVC to address them. There is a plan to purchase 174 rakes in phase 1 of MUTP.
The numbering of MRVC rakes is very haphazard and is getting more and more haphazard by the day. So, to help a curious tribe called railfans, I have prepared this site which contains list of rakes held by Western railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR). Along with the rake number, I have also included the date on which the rakes were despatched to the respective railway from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) located at Perambur near Chennai. On an average, it takes 7-10 days for a rake to reach Mumbai from ICF.
If you are unfamiliar with the conventions used for numbering the EMUs, it would be advisable to get familiar with the numbering system first. Please visit the Numbering Conventions page for a short overview of the numbering system of the EMUs. After getting some idea of the numbering system, you can now proceed to the list of rakes with each zone, links to which are given below. If you are already well versed with the numbering system, you can directly proceed to the lists.
