Michael R. Strain is Deputy Director of Economic Policy Studies and Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. His academic research papers and nontechnical policy papers study labor economics, applied microeconomics, and public finance. He is also a fellow with the Labor Dynamics Institute and a special sworn status researcher with the U.S. Census Bureau. Before joining the American Enterprise Institute he was the manager of the New York Census Research Data Center and an economist with the Center for Economic Studies at the Census Bureau. Previously, he worked in the research group of Census' Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics Program and in the macroeconomics research group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Dr. Strain is a graduate of Marquette University, and holds an M.A. from New York University and a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell. He is a contributor for The Washington Post and is frequently interviewed by major media outlets.
