I have been teaching for 30 years in Los Angeles Unified School district at Portola Highly gifted middle school. I have received a Master’s degree in Science and a degree in Education from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University in Baroda, India. I got my teaching credential from California State University, Northridge.
I teach 7th grade Biology and 6th grade Science. I designed a special yearlong elective in which I teach the anatomy and physiology of the animal kingdom. The students learn to dissect the preserved animals representing different phyla. I am also a Science fair coordinator and a science fair club teacher sponsor. I have integrated science fair projects in my 7th grade curriculum to help students design and develop their science fair projects. I also coordinate a science fair at school with help of our supporive parents to give students opportunities to explain and defend their work to the judges. My students’ abstracts have been published in The New journal f Student Research Abstracts since 1994. I am trained annually with Amgen Biotech Experience program for more than two decades which allows me to introduce my 7th grade students to DNA science and literacy. I am also the teacher sponsor for the Girls in Science and Technology club. The goal of this club is to expose 8th grade girls to the many potential careers within science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, and motivate them to pursue further education in these fields.
I have received
several Donors choose grants and Eisenhower NSF fellowship grants. I was a
finalist for state of California for 1998
Presidential award for excellence in teaching Science. Recently I have
received 2015 Encino Chamber of commerce Teacher of the year award , 2016 Gorchynski
