Welcome to Mr. Soriano's Classroom!

Dear parents and students,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you and your child to Room 19, a place of learning, growth, and new beginnings!  I am looking forward to having another fun filled and amazing year while meeting academic goals with the students.

I am a John Swett High School alumnus (Class of ’02!), and have lived in the Bay Area my whole life.  Following high school, I attended Diablo Valley College and soon transferred to San Francisco State University, with a concentration in Cinema.  After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in 2007, I worked as a freelance videographer and documented special events and produced educational videos.  I now look forward to the new chapter in my life as a Special Education teacher at Carquinez Middle School.

It is my mission to have an exciting year where I can engage students and help them meet his or her IEP goal.  I want these children to grow and learn, and be successful in many areas of academia.  Furthermore, I want the students to learn life lessons, hard work, and the importance of success and goal achievements.  In class, I will be firm on this mission but compassionate to the needs of the class individuals.  I will allow for fun because I believe learning should be fun, but I will never sacrifice my expectation of hard work and respect in the classroom.

While I can guarantee these beliefs will be ever present in the class, I expect a few things from the students.  I expect each child to have a great attitude towards the learning process, respect for others and myself, and to be on time and ready to work.  Each child will, of course, have his or her own learning level, but all students in class are expected to put forth an effort to their highest degree.

Together, we can work on bringing the best for the young learners not just in the classroom, but also at home.  Parents, you can assist me by making sure your child gets a good night’s rest, making sure he or she arrives on campus at an appropriate time, and most importantly, assist in the work your child brings home, whether it is weekly homework packets or a long term project.  You are also welcome in the class and field trips as volunteers.  While I do not expect daily visits, it is very helpful and important that your child knows that his or her education is important to you.

Thank you for your support and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
