Welcome to Mrs. Norvell's First Grade Class!!

 Week of November 18th:

Writing: Students will continue to practice forming sentences using capitals, punctuation, and ordering a given set of words so that the sentence formed is a complete thought. Students will also continue to practice using their agenda books to write important information pertaining to the classroom or school happenings. Each night your child will bring home his or her agenda book with homework assignments, and/or important reminders. It is very important that the agenda book is checked and initialed every night by a parent/guardian! You may also write me notes in the agenda book as needed.


Guided Reading: In whole group reading, we will continue to focus on comprehension by using the illustrations and details in a text to describe and compare key ideas in a story. Students will be assessed on comparing two text with the same topic on Tuesday, 11/19. In phonics, we will focus on high frequency words and notice the different patterns in words that will help us to decode words when reading them. We will continue our ELA centers that focus on a variety of ELA skills.


Math: Students will continue to explore Module 2: Introduction to Place Value. Students will solve problems with addends of 7, 8, and 9. Furthermore, students will share and critique peer solution strategies for put together with total unknown word problems. Students will be assessed on Module 2, Topic A, Part 2 on Friday, 11/22.


Social Studies: In Social Studies, we will be exploring Unit 4: Everything Changes.  Students will learn about and discuss families past and present, going to school long ago, moving people and things, as well as, ways to share news and ideas. Students will be assessed on Friday, 11/22. 

PTO Meeting: Tuesday, November 19th, 6pm – 8pm.

Board of Directors Meeting: Thursday, November 21st, 6pm-8pm.

PTO N.U.T. Day: Friday, November 22, 2019. Cost is $2 to participate.

Shorts are worn only from August to Thanksgiving break and again after spring break.  After Thanksgiving break, legs must be covered.


Your child’s homework packet was sent home in his/her weekly folder on Friday (today), November 15th.  Homework packets are given on Fridays and need to be returned on the second Friday from the date it was sent home. Your child’s next homework packet will be due on Friday, December 6th.  Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding your child’s homework packet.

Students will record their word wall words in their agenda book at the start of each week where they will need to practice them every night. Students will be assessed on word wall words bi-weekly. Remember students will need to be able to read the words not spell them. The next WWW assessment will be on Friday, December 6th.
