Madman As Hero: Boring College-Style Prompt 2

During the French Revolutionary Wars, the Spanish painter Francisco Goya wrote, “el sueño de la razón produce monstruos” or “the sleep of reason produces monsters.” Some scholars interpret this statement as Goya’s theory of the origin of both fine art and of human misery arising from political folly. Does this philosophy, which Goya also articulated in his paintings, accurately explain the relationship between the instability in Frederick’s Prussia, the French Revolution/ Napoleonic era, and the German Empire with the excesses of the Third Reich?
