Dear Parents of Students of Mrs. Minor’s English/Language Arts Class,
Your son/daughter will be doing a lot of reading, learning vocabulary, practicing grammar, writing, and learning root words, prefixes and suffixes in my class. My web site will have due dates as well as a brief description of what will go on in my classroom on a daily basis. Please look for study guides at the bottom of my web site under “Attachments”. Your student might need them if they forget their notebook at school.
Please familiarize yourself with the tardy policy and the dress code policy in the student handbook. Also, now would be a good time for me to let you know how I handle disruptive behavior in my class. I will give the student a warning about his/her behavior followed by a conference with the student if the disruptive behavior continues, followed by a conference with the parent if the disruptive behavior continues followed by a referral. This assures that the rest of the class will not be affected by one student’s disruptive behavior.
Assignments that are turned in one day late will receive 70% of the grade that they would have received if the assignment had been turned in on time. Assignments turned in two or more days late will not receive any credit.
I would also like for you to give me permission to show curriculum related PG-13 movies to your son/daughter, for example, the first novel that we read will be War of the Worlds. I have always found that the students benefit from watching the movie adaptation in order to compare and contrast the novel to the movie. If you would like to talk to me more about this, please e-mail me or call me at the school (or you can talk to me at Open House).
Welcome to the 2013/2014 school year; I hope you’re as excited about it as I am!
