Today:Module Five Post Assessment
Today:You will be putting all you have learned about Emerson and the Transcendentalists into Practice! You might want to revisit the Blendspace I posted earlier this week if you want to review any information.
The Task:
You are going to create your own Transcendentalist society that demonstrates the key themes in the Transcendentalist Movement – self-reliance, importance of nature, minimal government intervention, belief that humans are good.
You must include the following to showcase your new Transcendentalist society:
1. A meaningful name for your society
2. A pledge that illustrates the values and allegiances of your society – think about the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance to give you an idea about how to organize your pledge.
3. Design and create a flag using colors, symbols, and images to illustrate your society’s values - in a paragraph, explain what the colors, symbols, and images mean and how they represent your society’s values. Here is a website to help you: Flagmaker (Links to an external site.)
4. Describe the types of work people in your society would engage in – be sure it adheres to the values of Transcendentalism.
5. Describe the type of environment your society would be – in other words, would it be a rural society, an urban society, an island, etc.? Provide a detailed description and add pictures.
Remember You must cite the images you use in MLA format. This is required. You can use Easybib to do this. You can complete this assignment in a PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, or or favorite presentation software/program.
Today: While you are thinking about transcendentalists and their legacy and how it might look in a modern society take a moment to watch this TED Talk on non-violence and the importance of noticing it.
