  • Snow Days 2018
Well, it looks inevitable.  Snow is on its way.  To keep students academically engaged over the snow days I will be sending home some review math work and a special Flipgrid Video Challenge.  I'm excited about the Video Challenge.  It can be really fun if everyone participates.  I will be posting videos also.

The link to the Flipgrid Video Challenge is:

  • Week of November 13th
I hope everyone had a great long weekend.  I just want to say "Thank You" to any veterans or active military family members.  I truly appreciate your service and sacrifice.
This week in fourth grade students will continue to practice long division and will move to larger numbers, but with only a single digit divisor.  I'm teaching students a few different methods, so if they show you something "funky", it's just a different algorithm.  I will be teaching them the traditional method also.  In science we will continue with energy.  Right now they are learning about thermal energy and will move to sound energy.  Because of the short week student will not have daily word problems for homework.  They have a multiplication and division practice.
In fifth grade students will continue to practice adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.  I hope to introduce dividing fractions by the end of the week.  In science we will continue with weather.  Our topic this week is air pressure.  If possible, please allow students to bring a small, glass jar to school tomorrow.  We will be making barometers. Because of the short week student will not have daily word problems for homework.  They have division practice sheet.

    Upcoming Important Dates:

  • Week of October 29th
Well, the first quarter is in the books.  This week begins the second quarter.  Don't forget this Wednesday is an early dismissal day.  Student will get out at 11:30.  Students do not attend Thursday.  Parent/Teacher conference will be held this week.  If you have not signed up for a conference time, please CLICK HERE to sign up.
Students received a fundraising packet for Nature's Vision in their Friday folder.  Remember any profit you earn goes toward your child's cost for the overnight fieldtrip.  Students earn 40% of all sales.  All orders are due by November 26th.  Also remember customers can order online and have items shipped directly to them.  CLICK HERE for a copy of the fundraiser letter.
If you choose not to participate in the fundraiser we will need a $20.00 deposit by November 30th.  Money from the fundraiser and deposits will be used to pay deposits for the charter bus and Fort Caswell in January.
To start the second quarter fourth grade will begin learning multi-digit division.  In science they will be finishing up the phases of the moon and moving on to different types of energy.  Fifth grade will begin with adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  In science we will continue with the water cycle and move into a huge science topic for fifth grade - weather.
I look forward to seeing you this week.
