Don't forget the Coupon Book Fundraiser.  This is the last chance to earn money for the overnight field trip.  Please remember the sample book in your selling kit must be returned.  If it is not returned the cost of the book will be added to the cost of the field trip. The last day to order is February 28th.
The fifth grade trip is to Fort Caswell on May 1st and 2nd.  All money for the trip must be paid by March 28th.  We must submit our final number going on the trip and payment in April.  If you would like to be a chaperone, you must have the background check done by this date also.

Both 4th and 5th grade students have started a math notes booklet.  Over the next week or two we will be adding notes about all math topics.  Students will use this for the rest of the school year to practice and prepare for the EOG.
One obstacle that seems to keep many students from doing well is actually writing down and COMPLETELY working out math problems.  Many, for whatever reason, feel they can work problems or parts of problems in their head without writing it down.  This is causing many to make careless errors.  I have stressed to students they need to write down the problem, they need to be neat and organized and they must work out the whole problem.  Please talk to your student to make sure they understand the importance of this.
Don't forget the 5th grade homework calendar and the 4th grade homework calendar for math.  You can also use the Parent Portal to check grades. Students should also be reading EVERY night.
Progress reports will be sent home next Friday.

  • Week of February12th
Wow, February is flying by and I believe it has rained almost every day.  This week 4th grade will be learning about multiplying fractions.  They will be practicing this along with adding and subtracting fraction.  In science they will continue learning how the crust of Earth changes through weathering and erosion.
Fifth grade is working on dividing fractions.  They will be practicing that and all operations with fractions.  In science they are beginning the unit on cells and single cell organisms.
Please don't forget you can always check your child's progress through the parent portal.  There is a link to the portal on the homepage of my website.  You can also check homework on the homework page of my website.  There is a link to a calendar for each grade.
Don't forget our coupon book fundraiser.  This is the last fundraiser for our overnight trips.
Students do not come to school Monday, February 19th.  It is a holiday.

  • Week of February 5th
Hey Ho, Let's Go!  Let February begin.  Fifth grade will continue with multiplying fractions.  They need to know how to multiply a whole number by a fraction, a fraction by a fraction and a mixed number by a mixed number.  We will be doing a lot of practicing this week and will be working on fraction word problems as well.  We may, toward the end of the week, begin dividing fractions.  In science we will finish up with genetics and begin learning about cells.
Fourth grade will continue to practice decomposing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and multi-step word problems with fractions.  In science we will finish up with fossils.  A shout out and a huge thank you to Mrs. Persuad and Mrs. Kerley for donating more clay for fossil making.  We made some great fossils.  Students will bring those home this week.  This week they will begin learning how the surface of earth changes through the processes of weathering and erosion.   It's going to be a great week!
