Engrade Tutorial

Engrade is a website designed for teachers and school districts that allows them to create classes, gradebooks, online quizzes, and other online resources that engage students through technology.  This tutorial is designed to give an overview on how to login and create a class.  These are just a few of the the many resources that the online learning platform provides.

On February 3, 2014, McGraw-HIll Education acquired Engrade.  Buzz Waterhouse, president and CEO of McGraw-Hill Education stated in a press release about the acquisition, “As states and districts continue to search for ways to improve the effectiveness of teaching and personalized instruction, the need for an open, centralized technology platform that can provide actionable data and manage instructional interactions with students will only continue to grow.  By combining our content and assessment with Engrade’s platform and tools in an integration-friendly ecosystem, we will help schools bring together the elements of digital education in a cohesive, learner- focused system that advances student achievement.”

Signing In

To start, got to the Engrade website:  www.engrade.com.  If you have not created an account click on the Free Gradebook tab in the top right hand corner of the screen.  For the free account, you will be asked to provide information about yourself and your school.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

If your school district would like to use the site under as a Pro account, there is a link on the right hand side of the page that allows administrators to receive a quote for a Pro account.  If you have already created an account, click on the Login tab and sign in.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

You will click on the Create New Class tab to create your first class.  You will be asked to provide class information such as the name of the class, the year, grade, and content area.  After you submitted that information you will then click next.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

On the next page you will need to determine the grading scale for the class.  You can choose a basic grading scale that is already created or you can custom the scale to your liking.  In addition, you will be able to add categories for the assignments and decide if you want your assignments weighted.  This is an option that many teachers use if they have a variety of assignments such as homework, participation, quizzes, tests, and classwork.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

After determining the grading scale for the class, you will need to enter the class student list.  If your school provides students with ID numbers, I would recommend using those as the number identification after their name.  This will allow you to print out class rosters and grades using just the ID numbers to post for students to view in your classroom.  Once you have inputted the student list you are done creating your class.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

You will then be taken to the class page.  From here you will be able to use the tabs on the left hand side of the page to create assignments, add items to the class calendar, and keeping attendance.  When you move the cursor over the more tab on the left hand side of the page, you will see even more resources that can be used such as creating quizzes and seating assignments just to name a few.Uploaded by Awesome Screenshot Extension

I would recommend spending time on the site and seeing all that it has to offer.  There is an ability for teachers to initiate discussions and allow students to take part in these discussions online.  Each student receives a separate login and can use this to view his or her grades, take part in discussions and complete quizzes created by the teacher.  One major benefit of utilizing a quiz on the site is that the results can be automatically submitted to the gradebook.

The following video tutorial will walk you through the above steps:  This tutorial will provide the step by step process that should be followed in order to complete a basic login and creating a class using Engrade.  These steps must be followed prior to taking advantage of the multitude of resources that this online tool can offer to teachers, schools, and students.
