10: Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson's sentiments in The Declaration of Independence are very different from Edwards' in "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." As we read the DOI we will examine these differences and the role they play in American literature.

Pay close attention to the structure and the values Jefferson highlighted in the declaration. Note how he used parallel structure and the effect it had. Remember what we studied about the Age of Reason, and consider how John Locke's ideas influenced Jefferson.
